It was kind of a long process and somedays I really don’t think he loves me at all…but he has become increasingly more comfortable being handled by me since I started him on a routine and socialize him everyday! I take him out around 9 pm, give him some mealie worms and we chill together for an hour or so. Sometimes he just wants to sleep and sometimes he likes to run and explore a bit, but until we bond further I put him back in his cage after an hour or two. Some owners spend a lot of time with their hedgies and seem to have a closer bond, based on the more time they spend with them on a daily basis. A great way to help your hedgie bond with you is to put a shirt you wore recently/that day in their favorite sleeping spot, then they will associate your smell with good things. They are very scent oriented because their eyesight isn’t the greatest. I wish you the best of luck with your hedgie and just remember sometimes it takes time with these fickle pets!
